Intermittent fasting (IF) is a game-changer for busy executives dads. Most diet advice adds more to your plate when it’s already full. Fasting does the opposite. It cuts down the decisions you have to make every day, which is huge for someone who already makes thousands of decisions each day.
Here are some of the key benefits of intermittent fasting:
- Enhanced Cognitive Function: Many of our executive clients report enhanced morning energy and focus after making the switch to IF, which is a huge benefit for those with highly stressful, demanding careers.
- Accelerated Fat Loss: By cutting out heavy breakfasts, mid-morning snacks, and late-night junk, you naturally lower your overall calorie intake and lose fat without having to do special diets or obsess over every calorie.
- Improved Metabolic Flexibility: If you eat every time hunger strikes, you never give your body the opportunity to pull from stored body fat for energy. IF trains your body to burn fat for fuel more seamlessly, so you can easily go hours between meals without constantly needing food.
- Built-In Structure: Most busy professional dads do not eat in a structured way. They eat randomly, skip meals, and snack endlessly, which drives body fat up over time. IF helps you structure your day with simple guardrails, leading to more consistent meals and less mindless snacking.
How to Do IF Right
Many guys try IF, but do it incorrectly and miss out on the benefits. Here is what we recommend to successfully utilize IF:
- Do it every day. Doing it only on weekdays often reduces its effectiveness.
- Follow a structured meal/snack schedule within your eating window. We recommend a big lunch and dinner with a healthy snack between your two meals and after dinner. Your eating window should not be treated as an eating “free for all” because this can undo the progress made during the fasting window.
- If you workout early in the morning, you can do a hybrid version of IF where you have a protein shake post workout. The protein shake helps you get something in your stomach so that you don’t feel sick, and the protein also helps you recover from the workout. It technically breaks the fast, but it does so in a way that works for you rather than against you.
